Our racks are full again!

Happy lunar new year! Enjoying the holidays much? ūüôā it’s only 3 days to the weekend (hang in there!) so we thought to tempt you with what’s new in the shop.

Our dress rack is full again! Full of vintage outfits that are a riot of colour and print. Even better news – prices start from $15 for a blouse and dresses are mostly $30!

To round it off, we have something for guys too (but that doesn’t mean girls can’t wear them too) – two old-school track jackets. They’re the epitome of preppy cool – one in our national colours of red and white, and the other a classic Yonex of blue and cream.

Plus we have a new display showcase! Check it out.

Did you know international colour authority Pantone just named Tangerine Tango their colour for 2012? This dress is so rocking the colour trend.

This other pink number comes in a larger size than our usual petite dimensions. The belt is really awesome.

Tie a ribbon at the neckline

Mainly pink with dashes of turquoise

Original matching belt

A simple black and white striped dress with (again) tangerine motifs. We’re pretty sure this one was tailored for its owner. Why? Because there’s an adorable pouch made of the same fabric hidden inside the dress!

Simple V-neck

A closer look at the fabric

I’m pretty sure my mum had a similar dress in the past and she looked so wonderfully feminine.

Pretty Paisley

This is so 60s groovy- the colours, the patterns, the design! Most of us have seen an old photo where someone who wearing such a dress (with cats eye glasses and a beehive or omega hairdo perhaps?)

Cute short dress with swirly patterns

Closer look at the collar

Beautiful buttons on cuff

The ubiquitous shirt-dress. Smart-looking with a matching belt.

Party fashion

Want to be the belle of the ball? Try these one-of-a-kind frocks!

The vintage version of the little black dress. The lace cap-sleeves gives it a bit of a goth edge.

Satiny black dress

Love the lace sleeves

This salmon-pink frock stands out in the crowd.

Pretty in salmon-pink

Unique collar

A soft full-skirted sleeveless number- perfect for casual outdoor get-togethers.

You’ll feel so elegant in this sheer blue number with a soft swirly skirt

All you need is a sash at the waist to complete this divine dress.

'Diamantes' on the collar!

This number with a pussy bow is serious enough for work but also fun with coloured stockings and heels.

Patterned grey dress

The grey goes perfectly with a gold brooch!

A simple and sweet sleeveless dress (what my mum would call a three-hole-cut dress)

Sweet & Simple. Everyday wear.

Flashes of colour

We don’t get many blouses, so grab this sheer number before it’s gone. Features the requisite belt loops for a skinny belt.

For a modern look, roll up the sleeves.

Had Fun at the Flea!

We’re not biased (honestly), but we think the Public Garden flea market is one of the best (if not the best) local flea markets¬†around for those who are keen on independent crafts, design, ideas and just really unique items. Plus we can’t forget the triple deck chocolate cake we had from Sadie Rose Cakes & Bakes, or the (healthy) vegan ice-cream from Brownice.

Ok, enough about other exhibitors =) We were glad to be there to showcase our vintage Swank jewellery for men (cufflinks, tie-pins, pocket chains) and also to launch our new¬† vintage Swank brass buckles (more on this in a later post). We also brought some pretty pendants for the ladies, great paired with your vintage frock. The party season is indeed coming upon us¬†–¬†as¬†many of our vintage dresses found new adoring owners.

Our humble table - almost bursting at the seams

This was where the party was on Saturday

The place had a nice view too =)

Vegan ice-cream! I can't believe it's made from brown rice!

Classic Style – CopyKate fashion

While we don’t know if Kate Middleton wears vintage dresses, we know for sure that she embraces a return to fashion that is more elegant, graceful and ¬†feminine. In fact she’s the poster girl now for skirts that fall right at the knee or below, flattering slim cut (not tight fit) dresses and (gasp) long sleeves! Her much-adored wedding dress was the epitome of this classic style that has now become very much her trademark.

Thanks to the perennially stylish Duchess of Cambridge, these old-but-gold fashions are coming back in style. Not so much prim and proper but well-cut, well-made and a tad more conservative than contemporary fashion with their longer skirts and loose sleeves, vintage dresses make you feel more put-together and feminine. If Kate can look that fabulous while keeping covered up, give vintage styles a try and you’ll be surprised how easy it is to fall in love with them¬†too!

Grey dress with sailor tie

Lovely front detail

Elegant brown dress with floral hem

A detail of the fabric covered buttons at the back (the fabric on the buttons are matched to the patterns on the dress!)

Black satiny dress with lovely draped bodice

Wonderfully feminine - the draping is anchored by a ribbon on one shoulder

Demure paisley dress with original belt

You have to see this dress to appreciate its details such as the matching belt buckle and buttons.

Matching belt

Mustard and black dress with pleated skirt (sold)

Adorable buttons - as always!

Black chiffon dress with floral patterns

It has a very interesting sailor-like collar and scarf design

One of my favourite finds ever! A navy cotton dress with white boat neck collar. Casual yet classic. (sold)

The design at the back makes it even more special.

The little ribbon ties at the sleeves add just the right touch of decoration.

A breezy turquoise dress. Love the colour!

A versatile style you can wear anywhere

Another breezy number for the hot days we've been having. Sleeveless dress with zip-up front and ribbon-belt

Blooming lovely roses

New Arrivals Part II – Dresses

This batch of new dresses celebrate the colour blue – with paisley, batik, stripes and more!

This navy blue shirtdress comes with beautiful piping at the collar, black and gold buttons plus a matching belt. Please forgive the photography. The next picture shows the belt but the colour is closer to the first picture.

A closer look

Navy blue dress with mandarin collar and paisley skirt. Complete it with a vintage leather belt!

What we love, love, love about this next dress is the floral print along the skirt hem.

Simple long cotton dress in a batik-like print.

Everyone loves stripes and this black and blue one wows with its simple elegance. Look closely and appreciate the details such as the flaps in front and the fabric-covered buttons that run down the back.

The odd (non-blue) one in this lot but cute nontheless is this short dress with a ribbon neck-tie.

These plus more in the shop!

We’re open as usual tomorrow from 12 to 8pm. And next Tues as well by appointment.

Just a gentle reminder that we don’t have credit or NETS card facilities so it’s cash only.

More updates…

I enjoy changing the displays in the shop when I’m there, and always try to theme it up, at least in the main window.

To say it’s challenging would be an understatement, as we have so many items but so little space – just the¬†rectangular glass surface that’s the top of the display showcase actually.¬†

For my latest effort, I have put together Johnnie Walker memorabilia and iems I feel would look great on any retro-kitchen’s countertop – an authentic yellow and grey Thermos brand flask (looks circa 50s), a National toaster (love the argyle pattern!) and rectangular Diamond brand clock. We also have the same toaster in shiny silver which doubles up as an excellent mirror we feel. Both toasters are in good and working condition.

It’s really a coincidence, we just got a dial phone in the same soothing baby blue of the toaster (sold)! Pair with this phone index (bet you have not seen these in a while!)

Made-in-Japan phone

Store all your numbers! (sold)

Here’s the rest of the new fashion. We now have blouses too!

The detail is in the buttons (sold)

Silky black blouse with ribbon neck-tie (sold)

Play sexy secretary!

Another silky number, but with a twist for the neck-tie (sold)

Just knot it loosely for a casual air

Geometric cool! (sold)

Electric blue with pocket frill

Love the frill detail and buttons!

Smart linen dress with orange stitching and waist sash

Simple and rustic

One first formal-wear piece and it’s a beauty, with luxurious draping at the bodice and a bow on one shoulder. Imagine how it would look like with the right belt (we suggest a gold buckle)!

Not your average little black dress

Simply elegant

Summer brings cool cotton dresses

We’ve got such nice vintage dresses in lately that I’ve decided to ditch the shapely mannequin for this post in order to get the news to you pronto! Hope the new 2-D presentation works as well.

The first one’s not cotton, but the blue just makes you cool all over… Looks big but cinch it at the waist and it’ll be fine.

Cool blue shirt dress (sold)

The buttons are retro cool too

Smart checked shirt dress with pockets (sold)

Cute cotton dress with stretchy fabric waistband (sold)

Lovely details

It might be black, but it’s also vintage cotton, which is softer than usual and very cool to wear. The surprise is in the broderie anglaise (lace, cutwork and embroidery) hem.

Black cotton dress (sold)

Broderie Anglaise detail

We don’t get many sleeveless dresses so this one’s a great find. Plus it comes with the original belt! Looks big here sans belt.

Sleeveless polyester dress (sold)

With belt
